A. Singkaban (Bamboo Art)

Definition:
According to Sandagan (2016), Singkaban is a traditional Filipino art of shaving bamboo to create decorative designs, typically used for home decor, arches for weddings, town fiestas, and welcome signage in towns or cities.

Process:

  1. Experienced workers carefully shave the bamboo.
  2. Layer the shaved bamboo to create curls and delicate twirls to form artistic designs.

B. Puni (Leaf Folding)

Definition:
As stated by Flores (2018), Puni is a traditional art of folding elongated leaves, primarily used in making creative toys, food wrappers, or decorative items.

Process:

  1. Prepare the leaf by cleaning and cutting it.
  2. Fold the leaf according to the desired design.
  3. Tighten the folded leaf to secure the shape.
  4. Trim the excess parts to finish the garnish.

C. Pabalat (Pastillas Wrapper Making)

Definition:
According to Galvez (2016), Pabalat refers to the intricate art of creating decorative wrappers for Pastillas de Leche, a Filipino delicacy made from carabao's milk and sugar.

Process:

  1. Create a design on the tracing board.
  2. Cut the paper along the traced design.
  3. Trace the design onto Papel de Hapon.
  4. Wrap the finished pastillas with the decorated paper.

D. Taka (Paper Mache)

Definition:
Taka is the traditional Filipino art of paper mache, introduced in the 1920s by Maria Bangue in Paete, Laguna.

Process:

  1. Mold paper using a wooden carving base.
  2. Glue the paper using paste.
  3. Once dried, remove the paper from the mold.
  4. Reassemble, dry, and paint the product with decorative patterns.

E. Pagpapalayok (Pottery Making)

Definition:
Pagpapalayok is the traditional art of pottery making in the Philippines, mainly practiced in Pasig and San Mateo, Rizal.

Process:

  1. Pass the clay through a mill to refine it.
  2. Shape the clay using a mold made of Plaster of Paris.
  3. Dry the clay for 1-2 days depending on the weather.
  4. Bake the pots in a kiln for eight hours.
  5. Apply paint or glaze to enhance the appearance.

F. Sanikulas (Panecillos de San Nicolas)

Definition:
Sanikulas or Panecillos de San Nicolas is a traditional cookie from Pampanga made from arrowroot flour, believed to have healing properties.

Process:

  1. Combine all ingredients and mix for 10 minutes.
  2. Refrigerate the dough for 2 to 4 hours.
  3. Press the dough into a carved San Nicolas mold.
  4. Bake at 325°F for 10 to 12 minutes.

G. Pagbuburda (Embroidery)

Definition:
Pagbuburda is the traditional art of embroidery in the Philippines, primarily practiced in Taal, Batangas and Lumban, Laguna.

Process:

  1. Magdidibuho (designer) creates and stamps the design.
  2. Burdadera (embroiderer) embroiders the design.
  3. Magbabakbak pulls each thread to form a pattern.
  4. Pagkakalado locks the threads to avoid fraying.
